Why does the HDTV have different resolution compared to Computer screen?

It'd be so much easier if there's a common resolution and aspect ratio, so that the screen would be easily used as home entertainment center, or vice versa.

3) (And the answer to your question) People fight and some guy got the great idea to make some 16:10 screens and the other made 16:9s. In the end it really doesn't matter. Computers can handle both aspect ratios, and TVs are smart enough to put black bars or stretch the image.

I've actually seen quite a few new 16:9 computer monitors....so who knows in 3 years you may not be able to find any 16:10 monitors.

My projector will display either aspect ratio...but my screen is 16:9

Over the years, there has been nothing really standard about a computer monitor other than the cables.
Power since the 80's. VGA for most of the 90's and on. DVI or HDMI is more recently
