Kim, Putin and this fool, among others.

"Orbán, a champion of what he calls "illiberal democracy," has been accused of undermining his country's democratic institutions. He has been embraced by conservatives in the U.S., particularly supporters of Trump.

Orbán, who maintained close ties to Trump during his presidency, received cheers and a standing ovation at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas last year, where he attacked LGBTQ+ rights, bragged about reducing abortions in Hungary and celebrated hardline immigration measures in his country."

Aren't they exactly the opposite of what a US 'leader' is supposed to be?

They have control and power, and they idolize control and power. To them it's the end goal of politics, you can see based on their rhetoric regarding their enemies (always projecting).

It's not just the Republicans though. There's a global craze for "strong" men leaders. Something about the economic situation or the development of culture seems to have led to this phenomenon all over the world.

Another example

Probably a fear response. Expect to see a rise of authoritarianism honestly with the advance of climate change.

Conservatism is based loosely on the word 'conserve'. What are they conserving? Most of the time it's a rose-tinted / cherry-picked / fictional view of the past: "Times were better when there were less foreigners", that sort of thing, populist policies that appeal to selfish, narrow-minded, naive people.

The scam works most effectively with a front man who captures the mood of the populace at that moment.

Not a mistake that Republicans go for Authoritarianism but also have the support of most of the Christians and many other religious types. They want a big strong daddy taking care of things with a smiting hand. It also is why Republicans are so into conspiracy thinking, they are predisposed to believing fairy tales.

I know people that quite literally think of Trump as the hand of God. It's downright creepy.

I agree that if things really start to come unraveled due to Climate Change we'll see more authoritarian figures rise, and religious ones to make it worse.

The people who own and operate the GOP have propagandized their party members into believing that they are under a constant existential threat from forces outside of their party. Of course it has to be the liberal socialist gay immigrant commies who gathered themselves into a political entity in order to wipe the conservative patriots of the nation clean off the earth.

With this mindset, the scared shitless members of the GOP who have heavily armed themselves in response to this threat will obviously look for a powerful leader that can successfully lead them in an inevitable struggle against the woke socialists, a leader that is not afraid to do whatever it takes to allay their fears, up to and including "taking the nation back" in order to "restore order". This is their credo. This is their present battle cry until some jackass of theirs brainstorms another one. This will of course bring out the worst in the base of the party who are desperately grasping for that certain someone who tells things like it is, including ideas that being racists is an integral part of being an American patriot and that living in a religiously indoctrinated totalitarian insulated nation is THE answer to the threat they are living under.

Ergo, this guy that has numerous personality disorders by the name of Donald Trump who is now in the process of martyring himself for their cause is the perfect guy for the job.

In this country it's just Republicans. Maybe the same character traits that admires a leader who...

Brags about his support after shooting someone on 5th Ave.
Brags about sexual assault.
Been found in court guilty of raping a woman.

Because they are all evangelical terrorists. They need a single "strong leader" to tell them what to think and what to do in every station of life. Their brains simply don't work without direct commands from outside. After all, they already routinely confess that without their belief in a dictatorial air spirit, they would have no morality and easily go about murdering everyone they see.

This isn't me saying it, this is what they claim every fucking day. They have no free will, and this makes them proud to be some version of "alive."

Easy, they want a big strong daddy to do everything for them.
I am not kidding they literally want a big strong daddy to do everything for them. Just listen to how Deplorable’s talk. They are terrified of using a wrong pronoun for someone and being spoken to about it, they fear being told they’re wrong or stupid when they obviously are wrong and stupid.

The GQP favor dictators because the people who bankroll Republican candidates want decision makers who will do their bidding and insist that their decisions are the last word. Democracy does not appeal to people who are just in it for themselves.

Trump's maga followers think that Trump is on their side. They somehow relate to a con artist who is crooked as a dogs hind leg. I don't get it. But I can just imagine how sarcastically Donald Trump talks about his people when they are not around. I can just imagine how little he cares about these loyal suckers. We know this from how Trump will drop them like a hot potato once they are no longer useful, or when they get locked up, or when Trump owes them money, or when Trump just feels like it.

Surely the maga are not such losers to have no respect for themselves? Or then again, maybe they are?
I've seen these maga people, I know these maga people personally and I can tell you that these maga Trump loyalist are pretty Fked up. Seriously Fked up. Tragically Fked up. And I mean all of them. High flawed people indeed, just the type Donald Trump AND dictators attract.

Step 1: convince populace that they aren't secure, amplify their fears (doesn't matter if they are statistically negligible, or simply outright fabrication, but need to get to the strong fear response). Murdoch media is helpful assist in projecting such lies/fears.
Step 2: Blame a minority "other" and opposition for that insecurity / fear (Trans pedophiles! Immigrants! Blacks! Jews! Kurds! Arabs!) - completely fabricated lies are fine with sufficient media presence. Reality matters not one bit once fear response engaged.
Step 3: Scared population will vote for security, willingly giving up democracy/freedom to a populist that promises such security.

Not a particularly secret formula, but it has been working well as a method to deliberately undermine democracy and freedom across the world, for a long time now. Works best during times of economic hardship, whether real or a media-fabricated illusion of such.

They do bold decisive things ( being fucking bullies) that the small time bigots can point to and say " Look, that's a real man who knows how to get things done". ( Oppress those that I hate ).

That right there is very much similar to documentaries I've viewed about how Hitler came to power and how the people of Germany endorsed his visions of grandeur toward creating a Thousand Year Reich. And let's not forget that there are a substantial number of fellow Americans who consider themselves Nazis of whom would very much like to engage in the same methods Hitler employed toward "solving the Jewish problem" that was a cornerstone of his efforts to "purify his Aryan Nation".

As remote as that sounds, it's made possible by the fact that the Republican party has welcomed into its fold every totalitarian minded racist, supremacist and bigot in the nation of which have given these cretins a sense of belonging and legitimacy and of whom have, by the party's silence endorsed their membership in the party along with these racist's ideology that they wish to firmly embed into the party's platform.

Along with the desire to be told how to think, a side benefit is that a dictator tells people that think differently than them how to think. This is the best part, telling homos/woke whatever and other undesirable groups what to do or else there will be punishment. They prefer the glee of other's that think differently getting punished over the realization that they are also being marginalized.

This is a hard question to answer because in order to do so I need to ask myself why I post on a forum full of like minded people who abhor cult behavior collectively and support me when I rip them apart as stupid fools.

Oh wait. I don't think I was supposed to say that. Pay no attention to crazy Uncle Moonbeam. He got kicked in the head by a mule.

But if you want to dig deeper you might consider the idea that people who were put down as children and told they are worthless have lost their natural born self respect and seek solace in the communilization of victim mentality offered by cults of the agrieved.

Grade A example, of how humans are not rational actors.
People under stress, who feel pain, will freely give up Democracy. All the while convincing themselves that they are saving it from you. This is a repeatable experiment.
We are all the heroes of our own tales, even Hitler and Putin. This requires delusional thinking borne from the Ego to satisfy our ID. Pain means you are a victim, victim means you get to kill your "oppressor". Whatever the cost.

It sort of just boils down to "ape smash" in an attempt to solve complex problems. Even if it requires cutting off one's nose to spite their face.
  • You may be able to train people to resolve complex problems and think through their solutions.
  • But you will never get 99% of people to FEEL the solutions to complex problems.
  • Our first instinct upon encountering an uncomfortable truth will be to reject it.
For humans to place their faith into reason, requires such specialized training and conditioning, that our nation will fall long before education saves us from ourselves. IF our education was ever prioritized to save us in the first place. Ere long, there will ALWAYS be those among us who rise to believe Genocide and Slavery is a grade A solution to their problems. Because that's just what human nature compels us all to do. All of us.

For you to get it would require you to be stupid and admit you and Trump know everything that is good for the world.

Peak of Mt. Stupid as they say!
