Why does the FDA allow poison to be sold and consumed?

I'm not talking about Fast Food. I'm talking about the chemicals that, if you bought them from the manufacturer in bulk, they would have the skull and crossbones on them.


I'm talking about things like Nutrasweet and Sacchrin..

All those poor people drinking Diet pop, and Sugar free candies and gums. They think they're doing their bodys good. They are horribly mistaken..

Almost anything consumed in bulk is poisonous. Water, vitamins, caffeine, and a lot of other stuff that we consume on a daily basis without a second thought. Instead of railing against relatively insignificant threats, why don't you protest serious health issues like smoking?

Napalm- Very true. But that's not the point! Everyone knows smoking is bad for you. Hardly anyone knows that Diet coke, sugarless gum, and Cow's milk for gods sake, is poison! I feel that they are taking advantage of the mass populations lack of knowledge, and I feel that is very wrong.

FDA previous to Reagan would not approve it. Said it was dangerous or something like that. When Reagan took over he got rid of that guy and the
new guy approved it. The head of the big drug co. that developed Aspartame
(NuetraSweet ?) dunno if it was Searle or Roche or whatever was Reagans

Headaches, blindness, nausea, vomiting, vertigo, seizures, death, etc. I

Maybe I'm wrong, but most people I've run in to are at least aware that artificial sweetners are potential carcinogens- it says so right on the package. However, i think the relative risk of such substances is very small. I have no numbers to back me up, but my feeling is that the number of people that get sick as a result of consuming such substances is far less than the number of people hurt by alcohol, cigarettes, and other harmful substances (i.e., measured in deaths per 1000 population).
