Why does the body get a high temp for a fever?

Higher body temp kills off the germs. You feel cold because you're not used to the higher body temp so everything else seems colder in comparison.

Because years of evolution of the human body made it so. High tempatures help speed up the immune system to fight off infections. This is all controlled by the brain which releases chemicals and proteins (pyrogens) through out the body that builds up tempature.

I wonder if that is what they use in fat burners. One way to increase metabolism would be to raise body temperature by a few degrees.

As far as I know, most OTC "fat burners" are some type of thermogenic, stimulant, or fat/carb digestion blockers, or just basically inert junk. Many of these can raise your body temperature slightly but shouldn't raise it so high one would call it a typical fever (100 degree F or higher). They are really supposed to target the metabolic processing of fat but if they worked perfectly and safely I doubt we'd have such an overweight population. It sounds nice that a fever can burn calories and fat, which it can, but at the cost of alot of negatives. I think we all know high fever = organ failure, brain/nerve tissue damage and death. A mild fever for prolongued time is also very dangerous causing cellular breakdown to seizures to organ failure.

This is only a theory! How dare you try to pass some theory as a fact, when we all know that the Intelligent Designer designed the human body!

Great... I felt really sick newyear's eve and day and I took my temp right before making this thread, first it said 95*F then 98.7*F, then when I went to sleep shortly after making this thread, my heart began to pump really fast, I was sitting in my bed and I had a heart rate of 105beats per minute which is quite high for 'idle'. (I usually idle at around 50 or 60) Started to feel really hot and cold at the same time while it was doing this, again another miserable nights' sleep (wake up every 30 minutes) Now I take my temp this morning and it's 99.7*F.

How lovely, great way to start the farking year. LOL
