Why does the Acura RL have a weaker engine than the TL?

RL is ~$45k
TL is ~$33k

RL makes 225HP while the TL makes 270HP.

Only guess I have is maybe the RL's engine is quieter... or is it just that maybe it's near the end of it's generation?

Yes, the RL is an older design, with the TL new for 2004 - but there's a lot more to a car than it's engine, especially when you're talking about luxury sedans.
I believe the RL is receiving a makeover for 2005 or 2006.

new RL will be 300hp.

Until now, Acura kinda forgot about the RL.

Which is why I mentioned it may be because it's quieter...

The RL hasn't been redesigned in a while.. before the the TL Type S came out with 260hp (and the newer TL with 270), the two had the same 225 hp engines.

The new RL is expected to put out about 300hp..plus it's a bit bigger size wise than the TL as well.

Well, yes. But you've got to consider, especially in luxury vehicles, interior features and design, and interior and exterior materials and build quality, to name a few things.

Who know's whats going on with the RL. I'll tell you, I wouldn't have bought an RL in the last 3 years or so. We had a 1999 and they haven't changed the style until now...

The car desperately needs a V8...
