Why Does Startpage Want To Know My Business?

Just got a new laptop. Win 10 Home is the OS. Decided to make Firefox my default browser, no problem doing that. . Tried to make Startpage, which is supposed to be for privacy, my default search engine. When I tried, though, I got the following message: "Request your permission. Access your data for sites in the startpage.com domain".

That sounds rather intrusive and nonsecure, but I don't know. Is startpage taking my info for undesirable purposes, or am I misunderstanding?

Thanks for responding. Does this mean that using StartPage is no longer better than using Google or other intrusive search engines?

That's a generic warning that probably means it sets a cookie. Same as any other site. View their privacy policy if you want more details on data they monitor.
