Why does SETI crash my System??---UPDATED---

This might belong in another forum, oh well...

Here's the story:

I was running V3.03 without any problems. 🙂 "Downgraded" to CLV3.0, and again, no problems. 🙂
Then I installed SETI Driver and the trouble started - BSD, screen freezes. :disgust:😕 This always happens at random intervals when I run SETI Driver, and now even at times when CLV3.0 runs by itself...

What the heck is going on here???

OK,

CPU temp is 45, system temp is 30 degrees celsius according to the BIOS. I'm running a TBird 1.1 @ 1.25 Ghz on a MSI K7T Pro 2-A along with 384MB of MUSHKIN High Performance RAM. One stick is Rev.2 and two are Rev.3. My Virtual Memory settings are 400MB min. and 600MB max.

What does your CPU temp look like after the system has been running SETI for an hour or two? It may be that your cooling can't keep up with the extra heat produced by constant 100% utilization. It's also possible that there may be a conflict somewhere with your system and SetiDriver, especially since you said that everything worked fine until it was installed...perhaps a reinstall is in order?


Edit: Yes, I meant a reinstall of just SetiDriver.. 🙂

I had all sorts of crashing going on with 3.whatever with setiq and seti spy.
I switched over to seti gate and I am running smooth now, tbird 1.1g

Fardringle, the temps I mentioned are as high as it gets with SETI 3.03 running constantly with 75 degrees fahrenheit ambient temperature. I have the forged TAISOL on the CPU, two 40mm fans on the side panel blowing air into the case, and one 80mm on top blowing air out. I don't think it's temperature related. 😎
What do you mean with "perhaps a reinstall is in order? " SETI Driver?

Sukhoi, do I understand right, I have to "donate" a work unit to SETI GATE in order to use it? 🙁
Can I use it on computers not connected to the Net, crunch units on them, retrieve completed Wus, and upload it to S&H under my groups name? That would be sweet 🙂 and I'd be more than willing to "donate" ONE WU to SETI GATE!
Is it anything like the RC5 "Klinux" thingy??

Yeah, you do need to donate 1 WU to SETI Gate. I'm not sure if it's one WU total, or one WU for each different computer you have SETI Gate running on.

Are you talking about using it on a LAN where only one computer has internet access?

No, I mean crunching SETIs on computers that don't have internet access at all, and then transfering completed WUs to a computer that has access and transfering them to S@H. 😉

It appears as if I have the crashing problem fixed. I adjusted the core voltage from 1.87V to &quot;Default&quot; in the BIOS. I'm still at the same frequency and SETI Driver has been running for over 12 hours now without any probs. Go figure...

To &quot;sneakernet&quot; WUs, I imagine SetiQ would be the better way to go. Unfortunately, the site is down for the moment, but you might be able to get the old version from somebody around here and add this line to Qseti.txt:

proxy_server=shserver2.ssl.berkeley.edu

And the new version should come out sometime next month. Anyway, to sneakernet with SetiQ, you'd just move qwork.* files out to the remote computers, and take qresult.* files back to flush.
