why does scrolling text on a monitor make beeping noises in movies/TV?

and these are shows in 2010+.

has that ever happened in the history of computers?
Usually the sound effects have some kind of rhythm that goes along with what's happening on screen. It gives you a hint of what you're supposed to be looking at - the screen. If there's a person and text on a monitor, I'm probably staring at the person's tits unless there's some sound indicating that whatever is on the screen is more important than tits.

Go out and rent buy Robocop. The scenes where he uses computers are exactly how it should be done.

Why do they put silencers on a revolver in movies? Why do they have guns that you can fire 20-30 rounds without reloading that only hold 8 or 10 rounds in real life?

I think Hollywood is actually getting better with this. Its a far cry from the 80s where Arnold would fire two M60s, one is each hand, for the last half hour of the movie. :p

Why do characters in movies and TV shows only ever use their keyboards and NEVER the mouse, assuming they even have one?

That has to be one of my biggest pet peeves about movies/TV. It isn't like people don't know what computers are. Everyone and their grandmom uses a computer and we all know it doesn't beep constantly. If it did, we'd all go crazy and kill everyone.

I understand what they are trying to do, that its an audible clue that "things" are happening on the computer. But people aren't stupid, we know that if someone is using a computer and there are things on it, then "things" are happening. Not only that, but it instantly kills any immersion that the movie managed to create. I really hope they'll stop doing it sometime soon...

to be fair, the Nagant's cylinder closes up on the barrel and seals that area, whereas other revolvers it stays open.
Putting a silencer on a revolver probably would have some effect since that's where most of the noise is from.

What movies continually screw up is how loud silencers are. They're loud. I can't give a link at work but search youtube for "silencer" and you'll see. Even with a silencer, a hand gun makes a lot of noise.

Computers in movies jar me out. Ever notice how fast they boot up too? It's like instant!

Speaking of movie sounds, Mythbusters had a pretty good episode on movie sounds, and lot of them are way exagerated, such as people getting punched. Sadly if they did not do all this, the movies would probably seem like crap. It would feel like something is missing.

No, most revolvers don't have their noise significantly reduced with silencers because of the gap between the cylinder and the barrel. The M1895 Nagant can be silenced but most others can't.

Agreed on suppressors in general though, even the quietest guns firing small, subsonic ammo with a suppressor is still over 100 dB. You might not be able to hear the gunshot from as far away, but it doesn't mean you can shoot someone without the person in the next room hearing it.

Gun sounds in movies are totally off too. Any time someone moves a gun by any amount, it rattles like it's filled with little metal pellets.

Ever notice how rarely movie characters say "Bye" when finishing a phone conversation? They generally just finish their sentence and hang up, like the person on the other end knows he's done.

Annoys me.

I saw a movie the other day where someone made a comment about turning the safety off...on a Glock...and the guy hit the slide release.

In the movies, why do they ALWAYS cock their gun to show they mean business?

Soo... they were pointing at the target with an uncocked gun beforehand?
