Why does Quicktime try to save my files from websites??

when i try to save a file off a website by clicking on the file and NOT by using save target as...
Quicktime starts and then tells me..."The Quicktime Plug-in requires the Quicktime system extension version 5 or later."

it started happening when i installed Quicktime
i uninstalled it and it still is happening
how do i get rid of that??

please help thanks!!

not the specs below
my other PC is running Win98se
and using IE 5
if u need to know anything else let me know

what files are they? it must be a particular type of file.
try removing any file associations from Quicktime except .mov files.

it should be in Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options (or for 98 it might be Explorer -> View -> Options) sorry haven't used 98 in a while.

they are .exe files
and i tried removing all quicktime fill associations

thanks anything else??

I've seen this problem before. Don't know what the cause or solution is.

However, "Save Target As" still works.

ya "Save Target As" does work

anyone know how to fix this??
