Why does popcorn have to smell sooo good?

I've been at my current job for 3 years, and I don't recall anybody ever making popcorn. About 10 minutes ago I noticed a strong odor coming from the lunch room. It's a strong smell, with a faint hint of salt and butter. A scent that tickles the nose.

I feel like its friday night and I'm at the movie theatre - not at work. Dammit. :frown: Be right back, gotta go bother the person that made it. :D

*takes a deep breath*
Mmmmmmm.....

Do you prefer popcorn with:
1) butter and salt
2) butter
3) salt
4) plain
5) don't like popcorn
6) none of the above / abstain

I like popcorn at theatres, but I think the smell of popcorn in microwaves smells horrid. Must be because of people in back in the dorms borrowing my microwave all the time to make it. bleh.

It's gotta be 1 for me.

BTW, something that doesn't smell good:

Burned Popcorn

That will stink up the office for the entire day.

LMAO, milk duds.

Sorry for not making this an official poll, but my work connection is f*cked up and it keeps timing out every time I post.

I vote for #1.

very light on the butter and salt. they augment the flavor, not take over like the "blast o butter" crap i tried. kettle corn is really good too, and best when you get it right from the kettle.

OMG, I was in the exact same situation. My single room is across from a 3 room setup where there's a big tv, dvd player, game stations and stuff. We'd frequently have movie nights and stay up till like 4am watching rented movies and vcds. Since my room was right across the hall, my microwave would be stuck making like 4 bags of popcorn each time. Since they just happened to have the extra buttery kind, I'd stumble into my room after all the movies and have to sleep in this thick thick buttery air.

Why does popcorn have to smell sooo good?

Movie House Popcorn smells and tastes better because its popped in Coconut Oil. So you get the sweetness of the pectin on the kernel as its popped. As for microwave popcorn, I think that smells as close to wet smelly feet as one can get without actually being so.

The kind of popcorn this person made may or may not have been movie-style, but it smells good nonetheless.
