Why does our stomach hurt when we eat bad food AND when you have to *you know what*

I was always confused about this. As i sat atop that ceramic/plastic rim, these stupid questions pooped, i mean popped into my head. And when your stomach hurts, is it actually your stomach, or is it one of the intestinal tracts? Mannn, i wish howstuffworks had an article on this.

you aren't ill , but you feel like that?
then maybe you aren't eating a balanced diet, like maybe you aren't getting enough fiber

Well no, the feeling gets releived once you let it out, but i'm just wondering what *causes* that feeling inside your tummy/intestines/whatever.

There are different 'pains' caused by different things. If I understand what you're implying by the thread title, you ate something fatty or greasy like a pepperoni and cheese pizza, or a McDumper Sandwich, then a little while later you had an undeniable urge to do a #2, your bowels started to cramp/hurt and you probably began to sweat a little, maybe feel a tad nauseous or light-headed.

Happens to me when I eat something very greasy. I've become intolerant of very greasy/fatty foods. I was on a health kick for several months where I avoided greasy foods, ate a lot of fish, rice, pasta, and vegetables. The first time I ate a Quarter Pounder after this health kick, I thought I was going to die. I was doubled over for two hours on the toilet sh-tting my brains out, palor, heart racing, sweating and feeling like I was going to pass out.

That's your gall bladder over-reacting to the fat and grease by injecting a ton of bile into your small intestine, the motility of your intestines goes into overdrive to move that stuff along and out the other end faster. Yes, it can really hurt.

Ahh, you know what, i think that just might be it. My stomach usually never hurts when i eat at home. I guess i can thank the food at my school. I have to use a WHOLE napkin to soak all the oil off of their pizza :disgust:

Things like this make me glad I haven't given up fast foods.

Its happened to me before but it wasnt because it was the first time. It was because I went too long before eating hot foods (like the jalapenos) so when I did eat them after several months, it hurt like a mother. If you ate jalapenos everyday, youd get used to it. Try it :D

Haha, you'd get more than just used to eating jalapenos, you'd get an ulcer :p

I hardly eat that much hot food myself, but I have a friend that is hardcore about tabasco and crushed red pepper. Not to mention his drinking habits. I predict bad things for him. Hes clogged up 2 of my friends' toilets and clogged toilets in 3 states. Needles to say, hes proud of his accomplishments...:D

Huh? "Why does our stomach hurt when we eat bad food AND when you have to *you know what*"

"Our"? My stomach sure doesn't agree with your assessment. It sure is very efficient in passing out any crap and storing useful things. Hehehe! :D

Seriously though, I don't get the "you know what" part. If I'm thinking about the same thing that you're thinking, my stomach never hurts, except if I were having a diarrhea (which almost never happens). If you're referring to diarrhea, it would be pointless to mention it since the first part (i.e., eating bad food) usually results in the latter.

Yes, i was referring to diarrhea. But, i want to know *why* eating bad food would result in stomach pains. I mean, i thought the sole purpose of the stomach is to digest. Why would digesting "bad" food cause stomach pains. How does the stomach differentiate between "good" food and "bad" food?

Hey now! There's no reason to bash someone because they are motivated toward something. Maybe those are personal goals he has set for himself....

Yeah, that's a good reason to not eat healthy, so you don't get "sick" after you eat real food, and then try garbage again...
