Why does OSX only run on Mac platforms?

I would figure that if they wanted to spread the OS, they would make it compatible with other types of hardware.

Part of the reason for keeping the OS tied to Apple hardware is it reduces the number of potential configurations running the OS thereby limiting the number of potential incompatibilities. If you read some of the threads on other sites by people running patched-up versions of OSx86 on PC hardware, many people have to undergo sometimes extraordinary measures to get things working right.

Yea I have Windows Vista 64 / Windows XP SP2 / and Mac Leopard on my laptop.

And yes it was hard as heck to get Leopard running properly as well as getting all the hardware running properly. I even had to change my wireless card 🙂

Microsoft is a software company that occasionally sells hardware, Apple is a hardware company that occasionally sells software.
