Why does OE compact emails?

This "feature" cannot be disabled. It says it is doing this to save HD space but give the size of HD's even since XP hit the street, this is a joke.

So why exactly is this done and why can it not be disabled?

unlike regular outlook, OE has a 2GB data file limit, thus it compacts to try and keep you under that limit without ever having to delete anything

Thanks, that explains it. No doubt I'm close to the limit. time to thin the herd.
