Why does NY (state) have the most expensive gas in the nation?

If you ask the oil company they will definitely say because of "high demand"! This is exactly what they told us last July when gas price was more than $4.15/gal! (Yeah right! eye rolling)

This is not taxes.

AAA, I think, was wondering and has yet to quite find out--even Schumer is pontificating--on why NY state's wholesale apparently appears to be exhorbitantly high. We are paying too much and I'd love to know why.

Really? WTF are you at? The station by my house was $1.81 tonight. ($2.14 just one week ago)

Doc, we here in Kahleeforneeya hate to have everything ALL the time, so we'll allow you to have the highest gas prices for a while. We're usually the ones with the highest prices in the 48 contiguous states. :D

:D No kidding. Humbolt County...where the paranoia is so strong you have to hack through it with a machete...especially during...harvest time...:p

That IS kind of off the beaten track somewhat...so gas would be more spendy there.
Gasbuddy.com shows the cheapest in the area (in Turlock, about 20 miles away) is at $1.69 FINALLY, gas is getting back to a more normal price...(I'm old enough to think that anything over $.35/gallon is robbery!) :D

haha.. you know I'm not even a stoner but I love how this place just flaunts it. I smell it in the air every time I walk down the street. Every fifth house is a grow house. Every tenth person you pass on the street has a rucksack on their back. and gasoline.. is expensive.

My personal, tinfoil hat type theory is that the gas wholesalers in your region have a reason to want to punish your sarea. I live in CT which had one of the highest gas taxes in the country-by a penny or two. The last time prices were high, CT was consistently at least 15 cents higher than Ithaca, NY (the boonies of central NY) as well as the metro NYC area. We passed emergency legislation to knock the tax down a nickel or so and the gas passed immediately dropped a quarter compared to those NY areas.

For some reason we are now at or slightly below the national average, which is pretty rare.

I love the argument that since its higher in some European countries, we should not complain. Someone explain that logic to me?

Did you even look at the link? It's a lot more than 'some European countries'. Our prices are lower than most and we still whine.
