why does my tuniq tower spin so fast?

the fan that came with the tuniq tower spins at 2100rpm all the time. its plugged into the mobo connector and the bios is set to "smart" fan control (slow when idle, faster as it gets hotter). i do not have the fan speed control that came w/ the tt hooked up. i figured the mobo would take care of it but it seems thats not the case. does this fan require the control wire be hooked up for variable speed? if so, that sucks cuz i dont want to have to reach around to adjust it all the time.

Double check your BIOS settings and make sure you have it set to 3 pin instead of 4 pin for PWM control, etc. I was having the same issue with IP35-E which seemed to not want to ramp the speed down at idle. Switched from 4 to 3 and bingo! it worked just fine after that.

Both scythe and nexus make pwm fans now in several sizes. I had an abit mb a couple of years ago that supported 3pin but it turned out only at full speed. Only a 4pin pwm was controllable by bios. Seems whimpy since other mb manufacturers can handle both.

well, im happy enough with the scythe i got. at full speed (reportedly 1520rpm) i cant hear it. moved plenty of air to keep the cpu comfy too. before i could hear the tuniq fan over everything.
