Should I go to the doctor? My throat has hurt for the last 3 weeks, but there are absolutely no other symptoms. Im not stuffed up, no cough, no fever, nothing. I feel perfect other than my throat. I keep thinking I will just wake up and it will be gone, but it doesnt get any better or any worse.

Any ideas what it might be? Strep usually has fever associated with it, and viral things like colds usually have me all stuffed up and coughing in addition to the sore throat.

Perhaps you tried to swallow something too large for your esophogas... like a large banana?

Go see a doctor. I had no idea that strep had fever associated with it, I've had strep twice and the only symptom I had was the throat.

I get sore throats from dry places. What's the humidity like where you are at?

(IANAD)

go in front of a mirrior and shine a penlight down your throat and see if what the condidtion of your throat (and tonsiles) are, look for biofilms (white stuff), pus, and blood. If it is inflamed (reddish as oposed to pink) and you are otherwise asymptomatic to other more serious condtitions then you might want to look at your diet and enviorment to see if there is anythign that can be irritating it.

It might have not been a banana :)

humidity would be a problem (in florida for the month, and started hurting before I left). I thought it might be allergies, but I take allegra, and I always have stuffiness and sneezing with allergies, so I doubt its that. Nothing has really changed in the diet.

Ill have a look at the throat and report back. If it doesnt stop hurting by monday, ill make an apointment. It will just be a pain cuz im on vacation 1000 miles away from my normal healthcare facilities.

Not to seem cruel, but weight, alcohol consumption and medications may be a component of your problem. Typically those that snore are overweight and snoring can give you a sore throat.

I forgot to mention that sometimes (this is espically true if you eat before you go to sleep) people will have an acid reflux incident and tear up the lining of their throats, without knowing about it in the morning.

definately see if it has any color. Anything unusual like blood, red nodules, white, pus, you want to see a doctor. If you have discomfort, it should be reason enough to go to the doctor.

I would have it checked out. How are your lymphnodes? If they're not swollen, I wouldn't be AS concerned, if they are, then you should go quickly.

 more common than you think. because you're on your side/back while sleeping, the potential pooling effect can be very damaging, more-so than with a normal incident during the day.

see people at nemc with this all the time.

hmm.. lymph nodes really dont feel swollen. If they are, its not noticeable. I noticed a few white specs near the middle/back of the tongue, but not sure if they are out of the ordinary. No swelling of the tonsols or redness that I can see.

strep test like mentioned earlier. Sometimes it causes white spotting.
Or maybe acid reflex. See a doctor.

How old are you?

Do you smoke?

You really should see a doctor for something that has been bothering you for that long.
