Why does my smoke alarm make noise

Okay, I've got a couple of 'hard-wired' smoke alarms in my house. About 60-70% of the time turning on light switches makes the alarm sound off for a quick, split second - very annoying.

I know it has to do with the wiring in the house, but don't exactly what the problem is - too much current? old detectors need replacing? Anybody experience this? Wondering if I should just call an electrician?

Inductive kick, eh? I'm guessing this has to do with a 'surge' of current through the wiring/house when the lights are switched on? - causing the smoke detector to momentarilly hiccup?

The lights are mainly flourescent replacements (for bulbs), don't think they have a ballast like tube flourescents? It still made a noise when regular incandescents were in there too.

BTW: It's not that 'chirping' sound when the battery gets low, it's a full blown alarm which only lasts for a split second. Anybody know any good electrician forums?
