My scanner adds yellow tint to everything I scan. Could this be a software setting, or is the scanner just hosed?

For instance, if I scan a small picture, it tints the picture yellow and the white background of the scanner is also yellow.

umm.. that wasnt a stupid question.. not sure why your LOL'ing.. smoking can leave a yellowey layer on the glass and or reflective backing.. also, your light inside could be failing to putting out a yellow instead of a white glow.. if neither of those are correct, get a new scanner..

Put on a dark sunglasses and run the scanner without any page on it and check the light being emitted. The white should be perfectly white. Any other color rendering is what causing your yellow tint. If the light is white then try upgrading the driver or if you already have the latest driver, then remove and re-install.

Some just are yellow, some bluish, some red. It varies by the model, sensor and sometimes just from one unit ot another. I have a friend who bought two HP scanners, the same model, about three months apart, one for he and his wife, then one for their daughters to use. The first one has a slight bluish tint, the second one seems nearly perfect. They appear to be exactly the same, but aren't.
