Why does my raptor make noise when I'm sitting at the desktop doing nothing?

Is this normal...I don't mind but it just seemed odd.
Since it is so fast, it might just be bored.

😀

What kind of noises?

Some programs might be running in the background that occasionally access the HD . . .

They sound like normal harddrive noises to me...except my last pc was a dell and was virtually silent so I'm not used to it. I remember back before I went dell hearing the same noise and it was never any trouble... Also, would it be wise to use extra cooling for the raptor and if so what do you reccomend? Occasionally I feel it and it is hot to the touch but if my CPU can hit 38 degrees celsius and not explode than I probably have no problem with the HD.

I don't have a Raptor (yet) so I can't make specific comments . . . usually, hearing the HD is no problem (unlesss the noises are 'strange').

Good case cooling is always a plus . . .

You should have got a P-4; you get used to 50C. 😛

can you reccomend any cooling methods for a HD? It seems difficult to get a fan anywhere in there. I mean, the case already has 3 80 MM fans and I'm adding a 4th right under the harddrives, but I still don't think it will be in the right spot to cool it.

Normal noises: spinning, back and forth, an occasional chunk (particularly if you have any kind of power management running).
Bad noises: scratching, grinding, screeching accompanied by small plumes of smoke. 🙂

well I wish I could describe but I wouldn't even know where to start...just a mechanical noise that's all. No smoke 🙂

Oh and I forgot about the 5 year warranty, I have nothing to worry about, nothing at all.

Sounds fine. Trust me: you'll know. It's sort of like the first time you hear air escaping out of a tire on your car: you've never heard it before, but you know it's bad.
