Why does my profile take 30 minutes to load in NT4?

This is getting annoying. I'm checking my profile on the C:\winnt\profiles
and also on the network. seems ok, but i don't know much about profiles.

Is there anyway to rebuild this and retain my settings?

This is a NT4 workstation SP5 high logging into a NT4 server.

everybody else logs in quickly.

oh and another thing, when i check the profiles folder, some have .000 .001 on the folder, what is that?

Thanks!

Bobby

delete those folders...theyre like temp files...deleting them will not hurt anything...trust me ive done it..also if that doesnt help you might try defragging (might have to go look for a tool that does this for NT)...or a fresh install of NT depending on how long you have had that computer running...

Ok i was messing around a little bit,

here's what i did, can anyone tell me if this is bad?

Logged on as someone else,

I deleted everything except my favorites, desktop, ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log, start menu.

I copied over everything from the administrator profiles folder and replaced.

I did this for both my C:\winnt\profiles and also on the server.

logged on as me.. loaded quickly this time.. about 15 seconds.

I hope i didn't screw anything up by doing this..

usually when we have this prob at school it's cuz u have too much crap on your desktop, put it on a network drive...
