why does my monitor get blurry when i increase the refresh rate?

i have a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 900u and a Matrox G450 32MB video card. at 1280x1024 60Hz, it's pretty sharp. up it to 85hz and it's blurry..why?
 
You loose a bit of focus as you move up the refresh rate. Now, if you push the monitor beyond its means, you'll get a very blurry image (or worse).
 
Sometimes it's the video card at fault but since you have a Matrox I'd be more inclined to think that the monitor doesn't like going that high. Try 75 Hz.
