When I click on 'my computer' under w2k, it displays a flashlight and takes about 10-12 sec to display the drives. It only happens the first time yo click on it, there after it goes very quickly.

windows ... ie integration... annoying... it has nothing to do w/ ur mobo really...
the first time it is doing one of two things... taking that long to load becuz it isn't in RAM or cache yet or scanning your cdrom drive to see if there is a disk... i bet if you play around w/ it you will notice that it takes longer if there is a disk in the cd drive... i have seen this w/ every sys i have built w/ win2k and win9x... most the time it is just it takes that long for the stupid cdrom drive to spin up...

annoying isn't it...

Just curious cuz I understand the evil that is Windows but how many drives do you have and what are they formatted in?

Maybe it has to do with the cluster size(like 512 etc.) in Windows 2000 settings?

You're right, it does take longer if there is a cd in the drive. I only have 2 drives on this computer. One is a Maxtor diamondmax 40, and a memorex cdrom. I have 8 drives on my abit kt7 and it's much faster at posting them than the iwill.
