Why does my Intellimouse only move on one axis?

MaxDSP

Lifer
This happened on my old PC and my new pc. The mouse has these frequent periods where it will only move sideways or up and down. Ive changed mice, drivers, pc, but nothing helps. What are the chances of me having two bad PS/2 ports on my PCs, one 3 years old, the other 6 months old. Any suggestions?

Dude!!!

Take out the ball and clean both "axis" inside the mouse. Chances are there is a lot of dust and other stuff wrapped around the one that doesn't rotate.

Clean your balls regularly, too![/b]

(And I hope you're talking about the regular, not the "laser-guided" MS mouse 😉)

I used 2 different Intellimice but both have the problem. And yes, I have cleaned both of them. I even opened one of them up and cleaned evrything out inside also. And the problem happens with both axis but at different times.

Are any of the PS/2 pins bent OR are any of the PS/2 slot holes on the MOBO bent? Check this out, you may find the solution there 🙂

On one of the mice, there is a pin missing I think but not on the other one. Im gonna move up to a USB MS Optical cause Im sick of this crap. Thanks anyway.

hey...u gotta keep your balls clean!!! seriously though...i would go with an optical mouse, they seem to hold up much better and you dont have to clean them nearly as much
