Why does my DVD player stop playing sound after a few minutes?

Im trying to watch a DVD on my new IBM laptop. Every 4/5 minutes or so It will stop playing sound, and I have to exit powerdvd and re-enter to regain the sound.. and then it will just do it again

anyone had a problem like this before? It does it in all the programs ive tried to view the movie with, so its not the program..

actually yes it is the demo version, but ive also tried using InterActual Player, and it does the same thing

I'm pretty sure that Interactual Player uses whetever MPEG2 decoder is already installed on your machine... That being the powerDVD demo one with only 5 minutes of sound playback.

it probably has a built in sh1tty movie detector, so try taking out "Chicago" and put in something good.

edit: can't spel

is that demo also?

I dont think so, it says nothing about it being a demo. I installed it yesterday when I bought the new lord of the rings dvd, it came with that

Are there any other programs I can try out that may work? or some codecs or something?

MPEG2 decoders are not free, they have to be licensed, hence there are no free MPEG2 players that are legal.

And if anyone didn't know, MPEG2 is the compression that DVD uses.

So when you buy a laptop with a dvd player you cant use it until you buy a MPEG2 decoder?

did it come with any dvd playing software? i know that normal oem and retail drives usually come with powerdvd or windvd, oem versions (full, not trial)
