Why does my computer freeze with my new video card?

I just got a 9600 XT and it works great with most games (call of duty, RtCw, UT2K3, Vice City) but when I try to play Rise of Nations or C&C Generals it freezes. The main men works in RoN but it stops in the actual combat part. And Generals stops a couple of seconds after the main menu comes up. I got the newest ME drivers from ATI.com but that didn't help. Please help

My old card was a geforce 2 mx440. What are omega drives (I'm not very knowledgable about video cards). And the chipset and agp drivers were just updated (within the last month)

Detonator Destroyer got rid of all the old drivers, but it still freezes.

Uninstall ATI's from Add/Remove Programs then reinstall them. _ Again_ Then restart the pc.

My guess is the video driver is the cause. I recently put a 9600XT in a new build; it came with the Cat38's, so I used the latest Cat310's instead. Everything was fine until I loaded the Tomb Raider game that came with the card. It would lockup when it would start to load. I installed the Cat38's and it then ran fine. I tried the Cat310's again and had the same problem. End result, Tomb Raider would not run under the Cat310's.

Here's something you can try to isolate the problem. Goto START > RUN - Enter MSCONFIG. In the system Config utility, BOOT.INI tab, check the /BASEVIDEO box. Restart - it will load with a basic video driver at lower resolution. Try running the game again just to see if it freezes in the same place. If not, then it is the video driver causing the problem; try a different version.

Reboot and check the NORMAL STARTUP on the General tab, to get back to normal operation.

I don't see a basevideo box. I see a display.drv=pnpdrvr.drv box though, if that means anything.

The OS I'm looking at is WinXP, are you running something else? In WinXP under the BOOT.INI tab, and is easy to see.

I have Windows ME. I've been told that my OS is the problem; I was just looking wanting to know if there is any other way to fix this without having to buy XP. I just found out that Warcraft III doesn't work either. It seems like all my RTS games don't work:confused:
