So my old computer broke, time for a new one! Here's the list I purchased from:
[*]Asus P5B-E
[*]Intel E6300
[*]Arctic Cooling 7 Pro
[*]Geil 2g 4-4-4-12
[*]WD 160g SATA
[*]LiteOn CD/DVD Burner combo
[*]CoolerMaster Centurion
[*]GeForce 7600GT
[*]SeaSonic 450w (420w maybe? in that range)
At first, I was having problems getting Windows to start installing, it kept erroring out. I formatted the HD on another computer and it seemed to be working fine, then more problems started happening. Now the computer will post and then randomly restart anywhere from posting to starting the Windows install.
To narrow the problem down, I yanked everything but one stick of RAM, the CPU, and the video card and it kept having the same issue. I've purchased an Antec TruePower 450w and plugged that in to test out any issues with the CPU - this seemed to solve the problem and it stayed in the mobo settings screen without a problem. Now I plug in the CD-ROM and HD and it starts having the same problem again.
I'm at a loss as to the issue and I've narrowed it down to the bare minimum but I still can't figure it out. There's nothing shorting out and everything seems to be seated properly since it'll stay posted fine. I've searched the forums a bit and couldn't find any mention of this problem. The CPU stays around 32-35C while posted, so it's not overheating. The mobo settings are default, so that shouldn't be a problem either.
Does anyone have any other options for me? I really don't want to RMA half my computer because I can't figure it out.
UPDATE: So I was doing more fiddling, I put in an older IDE CD-ROM I had and now it seems to be installing properly. Is there a problem with two SATA devices on this motherboard? What about the future? - I'd like to use the new device at some point.
