Why does Miranda-ICQ cause this?

Sometimes when I use Miranda-ICQ I get a huge hd-crunch lag. I know it happens because of low memory but why does it only happen with Miranda-ICQ? I can use MSN/AIM/IE simultaneously and there's no problems, usually ICQ too, but sometimes it creates this huge lag, rendering the computer 100% unusable, that's how laggy it is. I don't know why it happens.. But I let it go to see what would happen.. It crunched for at least 5 minutes.. I pressed alt-ctrl-delete and noted that Miranda32 was not responding. Hmmmm... I don't get it?

Dammit dam P) I know, but this is different. This ICQ client is 300KB, it's not like the AOL ICQ client at all. It's much faster, loads in a second on this trusty old P83 - but it has some kind of a memory leak that Gayol's ICQ doesn't.. But if I use that one, it takes much longer to load and is overall much slower.. argh. No good alternatives. :|

okay, first thing you need to do is ditch your slow pc, because its gotta be ancient if it can't even handle ICQ.

anything above a 300mhz machine shouldn't even breath hard with icq.

secondly, upgrade to windows 2000, because windows 98 even on a 1.5ghz 1 gig ram beast will slow to a crawl eventually and have to be rebooted to free up resources, windows 2000 will never do that.

third, get rid of icq 2000 and find the isntall for icq 99. no more stupid ads and MUCH less cpu/mem usage

ICQ will take up like 9megs+ of memory...AIM will take up like 1-2 megs. Can you say BLOATWARE. I'd ditch ICQ if some of my friends would do the smart thing and move to AIM.

Valhalla I know all that, I'm not a newbie, or an utter ignoramus - but I can't just magically have a faster computer.. Hopefully in the near future I will have one, but in the meantime this is on my nerves and something to complain about, hehe.

When I Did have my fast comp I never cared about ICQ being bloated, it was fine.. not too bloated even on 96MB sdram under 2K. I prefer 98a and 99b over any 2000 versions, but out of 2000 I prefer the "a". I'm using Miranda-ICQ which is much less bloated than any Mirabilis/AOL ICQ client ever released..

This lag screwup only happens on my P83 (24MB ram, Win95), but it's annoying because it's the only comp I use every now and then.

AIM is suck.

I don't ever use it, but I use ICQ because of these features :

ability to send messages offline, so they await the person when they come online
file transfer ability
doesnt pop the damn messages up on the desktop if I dont want it to, it keeps them in the systray
complete message history of all past messages and chats
mutli-user chatroom function
verbose user details
voice message ability
reminders

those are the features of ICQ I use on a daily basis.. I dont know how many of these features AIM has, but until it has them all I won't even consider using it.

IMO, icq does too much "crap" all i want is a messaging service but then they added games, chat, email, anal probes, etc etc. why i like AIM, its small, and it runs well, it doesnt take up much space. its basic, fast and reliable.

icq 2000 added a bunch of crap. thats why I use ICQ 99.

and I have to have the features I listed.. does AIM keep a complete searchable history of all past messages?

can you transfer files?

can you send messages to offline list members?

those are the most important things I use on icq.. I dont know, does aim have those?
