Because they probably came in at the lowest bid at that particular time/warehouse/size/ect.

They tend to leave the package on the front door...easily accessible to the public to steal. UPS and Fedex leave my packages in the backyard

It's not as bad as Dell using them. At least with microsoft, you'll have a couple of dented boxes and maybe a cracked cd case. As for Dell, you'll be lucky if your processor didn't come out of its socket during shipping and that LCD monitor you ordered.....well....it's got a cracked screen for sure.
