I've always wondered why it takes so long for movies to get released on DVD and why some movies are quicker than others. For example, Bad Santa just came out on DVD and it was released back in December of 2003. Thats more than 6 monthes. What's the reason for this?

The better the movie, the longer it takes.

Mind you it used to take a full year to go to cable before the advent of the VCR.

Why release it on DVD when people are still paying to see it in the theaters?

Also, the releases could be timed to be around certain times of the year when they will be bought more.

Used to be much, much, longer when DVDs didn't exist. I remember waiting several years for star trek movie releases to be put out on vhs.

Or, if you're George Pukeass, you bumblefsck around with the originals 5 times in the sake of cash cowing them, and release them in a bastardized form on DVD 3 decades later.

so that people won't download the "OMG LOTR DIRECTORS CUT RIPPED DVD COPY!!!!ONE1!!", and instead go to the theater. (Or download the crappy version that was filmed in a theater in Taiwan by an epileptic having seizure)

"So long"? God, some of you people are fvcking impatient. I remember when 6 months was a QUICK turnaround for a movie. It usually showed up on video closer to a year after, and on TV around two years after. Now it's the crappy movies and the mega-block busters that get to DVD the fastest. Everything else takes a couple months still.

*Looks at original post, then gives vi a few taps on the head* Dude, read closer. You're thinking of Star Wars not Star Trek

Uhhh....

I know the difference between the two. My point still stands that Lucas STILL hasn't release Starwars in it's original form on DVD yet. And probably never will.

*Shug* I realized I was a little hasty in that statement, hence removing it 2 min before you posted your response. And frankly it looked like you were confusing the two innitially just by the fact that you quoted the original star trek statment above what you said.

You could always buy the foreign imports versions.
