Why does it take 2-3 tries for my SSD to be recgonized from a cold boot? (RESOLVED)

I have an ASRock Extreme 4 motherboard and an OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SSD. These are part of a new computer build that I recently completed from Black Friday deals. Also running Windows 8 Pro and 8GB 2133Mhz Ram.

Ever since day 1 of the install, I noticed my PC never boots up properly from a cold boot. I either get a message from the BIOS startup to choose a proper boot device, or Windows 8 will start to load and then freeze.

I have to reboot the PC (reset button) at least 2 or 3 times before Windows 8 will load properly all the way. Always from a cold boot. I notice if the computer is already on for a while, it reboots fine if I need to.

What in McCain's glass garden is going on here? Something in my BIOS? Bad SSD? Its set to ACHPI and TRIM is verified on in Windows 8. Anybody else experience this issue? Solutions?

Using the latest bios and drivers from the Asrock website?

Your SSD is the first boot device listed?

Tried another cable or port to see if it helps?

Did you set up your SSD as a SSD in bios. My Asrock P67 board has option in bios under drive config? to set it as a SSD device. Maybe poke around and see if you find a similar setting and see if it helps....Gonna reboot and look where it is exactly.

Advanced > Storage Configuration > Click SSD and see if the option is there. Not sure what it does or if will help or not.

Sounds like a timing issue. Down clock (CPU and Buss) a notch and see what happens. If it works okay, you might try different memory timing settings.

Did all the suggestions above, though I didn't downclock anything (everything running at stock speeds). Checked every relevent SSD related setting in the BIOS.

First I relocated the SSD Sata connection on the motherboard according to this post:

Next I disabled the "SATA Aggressive Link Power Management" in the BIOS.

Now, my SSD boots into Windows 8 from a cold start without issue. Let's hope this lasts. Not sure what specific action resolved it, but hopefully this thread will be a good starting point for anyone else experiencing this issue.
