Why does it seem that most people on motorcycles are jerks on the road?

I was trying to cross a busy crosswalk coming home from class, the walk light just came on and I stepped onto the street. Luckily I saw him coming, but some jerk on a motorcycle ran the red light flew by me. I yelled, "Thanks for running the red light!" so he turned and flicked me off. :|

I've had a lot of similar bad experiences with people on motorcycles while on the road. Perhaps it's the college student riders that give them a bad name, idk. The guy was riding a Harley in case you were wondering.

Yeah, because no one in a car runs red lights or flips people off...

Because most <operative word> motorcycle riders are young, dumb, and full of...well, you know.

What I find more shocking is that someone "flying by" on a motorcycle with a helmet could hear you yell a whole sentence as they "flew by" and then still had time to flick you off!

Most younger guys on sport bikes are jerks. you can tell they are jerks from adistance. they are the ones wearing jean shorts, sandels and a baseball cap while rideing fast trying to impress poeple.

Probably because good riders will not register in your brain for a long time. Asses on 2 wheels will stick around a long time in your head though.

Lemme guess, he was on a sport bike? (crotch rocket)

They're the worse offenders IMO.

because you only notice the clowns. Those of us who ride like a sane person aren't seen as you cut us off and run us off the road

Take solace in the fact that he probably won't be around too long. He will likely get in an accident Ben Roethlisgerber style.

I am always overly careful around motorcycle drivers, but some are just asking to get killed. Everyday on the way home from work some moron on a motorcycle is zooming between stopped cars at 30+ mph between lanes. I would seriously laugh if his head hit the side mirror of a truck.

I'm always really careful on my bike. Even if I hit a pedestrian, I'm still going down. Leathers + helmet all the way.

Because he wasn't on a motorcycle, he was on a Harley. If the guy is running red lights on a Harley you won't have to worry about him much longer.

I find there are more worse motorists than motorcyclists, I mean you don't see many motorcyclists trying to talk on the phone whilst drinking a cup of starbucks and putting some makeup on at the same time do you? It's just accidents waiting to happen. Cyclists are the absolute worst though, they think the pedestrian and road rules apply to them and they pick and choose as it suits them.

30 MPH on a sportbike is hardly flying..

you do realize how much stopping power a modern sportbike has vs any car in the world..

at 30mph lane splitting is fine (and safe) and in some states legal and in other states cops don't ticket us for it even thought the law is not on the books.

now if you said 50+ thats a little more reckless for splitting...

The reasoning for this and why some cops look the other way especially in summer months is Air cooled bikes can over heat when sitting in traffic specially Harleys or older (70s) bikes. they do not have any kind of cooling except fins cut into the engines heads which cool the bike..

this is why California and other states have or don't enforce motorcycle lane splitting laws.
