Why does Hollywood believe planes land nosewheel first?

Awesome movie, but I swear Hollywood always screws up the stupidest details. The "E474" plane they madeup for the movie looked funny too--those engines were friggin' HUGE! I thought the 5-across seating was so stupid, but laughed when one of the passengers asked if Foster's character was responsible for that design.

clarification: seating config on the fictional plane was 3-5-3

You kidding? Boozing after last night? Ughh, did the City Walk and got hammered with all the drink specials...didn't get back till 4am. My ass still hurts too (long story, but no anal sex or insertions involved.) Sure I'm a drunk but even I need to take a break with a chick flick thriller once in a while.

And I haven't seen my roommate in 3 days. Don't know what happened to him. Hopefully his checkbook is still in the room so I'm good for next month's rent.

5-across? wtf?

some real planes sit 5 across, hell some sit 7 i think

Is that what op means? MD-80s have 5 seats per row (2-3), and DC10s have 9 seats per row (2-5-2) for example.

747's can seat 10 across in coach. 3-4-3
L-1011's can seat 9 across. 2-5-2 I flew in what I swear was the very center of a very packed L-1011 once. No fun.

No no no, 5-across as in 5 in the middle. The seating configuration of the plane was 3-5-3 on both decks.

I still don't see what you're getting at. You're making it sound like it's unusual to have 5 seats in the middle or something.

Sounds like the new Airbus 380, the world's largest commercial airliner. It is in production now and goes into service next year. I don't know about this movie you saw or landing nosewheel first, but that monster plane is real. Each one of the 4 engines is as big in diameter as the fuselage of a 737.

edit: seating for 555 passengers!

I haven't seen the movie, but I swear Hollywood actually pays people to research this stuff but some goofball on the internet (who has no clue what he is talking about) always knows everything better.

I love how in the movies a 747 can takeoff in less than 200ft of takeoff roll and immediately follow it with a 90 degree turn pulling 9Gs like an F16.

Trust me, this is *NOT* the A380. See the movie (maybe the trailer reveals their funky design?) I mean, the cabin windows were trapezoidal instead of the usual oval shape.

thats not unhearrd of, ive been on planes that were 2-5-3 and 2-5-2 so 3-5-3 isnt impossiable and the new huge ones will do that IIRC

According to an interview I saw with Jodie Foster, the airplane in the film was a completely fictional airplane but was loosely based on the A380.

becuase landing nosewheel first looks cooler.

as for the ghetto configs, man, I'd never fly coach. I rarely fly, but I always fly first class.

As well as noone wants the window seat in a 747 having to jump over 2 ppl to take a piss. I already hate it when I dont get an aisle seat in 2-x-2 config
