Why does hockey get such low ratings?

... in the USA of course. Is it because the NHL is too low scoring? ... not enough hype? or is hockey just boring?

I mean come on.. even the XFL got better TV ratings last year.

Having grown up in a family of Red Wings fans, I cannot say. Great fun to watch, and The Joe (Joe Louis Arena) is a great place to watch a game.

Off topic, but the US-Russia Olympic Hockey game the other night was amazing.

Hockey is too fast paced and complicated for the American audience. Fox tried to dumb it down with that stupid puck thing, and it didn't work, so the American nets just gave up on it for the most part.

I would rather watch it in person. I never realized how much of the game is missed when you only follow the puck. As far as ratings go, I think that the sport lacks some marketable stars. Certainly there are some excellent players but they can't compete with basketball, baseball, etc. I don't know about the XFL out rating hockey but the NHL could use a HE-HATE-ME.;)

Just another Canadian cheap shot.

Most americans never had the chance to play hockey. Northern states perhaps but most of us grew up watching/playing baseball, basketball, football, and soccer. If there were more than a couple of interesting players in the NHL we would tune in.

I agree that the Fox idea was more annoying than entertaining. To me Hockey is a much better spectater sport.
