i just bit into a plum and it tastes like nothing.
all summer, the fruits i'm eating taste so bland.
no matter where i get them...

ach!
what's happened?!

well, when i said from different places, i meant along the east coast. i live in northern nj and travel down to the dc area a lot.
so..
some supermarkets and some farmer's markets... farmers markets are by far better, i've found...
but i remember the taste of a plum being so much more distinct than it seems to be these past few years.

As we get older our senses diminish/get dulled.

When I was younger, the slightest bit of "hot spices" on food would make me cry like a little girl. Now, I put crushed red pepper on some foods. Taste buds die with age, I guess.

Your sense of smell becomes worse as you age, detrimentally affecting your sense of taste.

Most supermarket fruit is steroid-enhanced so they can get more weight per item, and thus more profits. Companies like Walmart are driving everyone to modify their fruits as much as they can so they can compete price-wise, the problem is that a lot of the GMO fruits really suck. I don't want a grapefruit the size of my head if it tastes like ass.

i prefer that theory to the "ive gotten too old"
especially since im 22.

GMO fruits don't rot and can be found out of season, but yes, they suck. No taste at all to them, because IIRC the GMO process inhibits the natural production of sugars.

I can tell you first hand that fruit you buy in a store, especially the chains, is ass. My grandparents own an apple orchard in central Washington state and let me tell you, ripe fruit fresh off the tree simply can't compete with store bought. Most items they pick early, so that it lasts longer in storage. I love nothing more than walking out to their trees and picking what's ripe, washing it in come cold water and eating it while it's still warm from the sun is a refreshing experience.
