why does fiber give you gas?

I swear, every time I get more than my average fiber intake, I get terrible hot gas. I hate it. WTF is up here?

It stinks, too.

The gas is pretty much always due to bacteria chewing up whatever your system can't digest and producing methane

Its just giving you a heads up honk that the train is coming through.

Yes indeed...a fart is just a turd honking for right-of-way!

Lots of gas gives me room-clearing gas...
/me is SO-OOO proud...😀

But unfortunately, it also means something else is on the way...and DON'T get inbetween me and the crapper when it arrives...(or for that matter, anywhere in the neighborhood):laugh:

I'm pretty much the same. It's not everyday gas, it's the eye-watering kind that makes your dog leave the room. Coffee seems to corellate with it.

Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was... a drinker. And a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not. One. Bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. Turns to me and he says "Why so serious?" Comes at me with the knife,"Why so serious?" He sticks the blade in my mouth. "Let?s put a smile on that face!" And... Why so serious?

Yep. You have to increase the intake slowly. If you have a major spike then the bacteria can;t handle it all and ytou end up with a lot of gas.

So cut back and/or increase your intake slowly but then maintain it.

I try to keep it up, but every so often I'll get a lull in my fiber intake... and when it goes back up, boom. Gas.

My family will tell you that everything, including water, gives me gas...

I just consider it as, "air in, air out." 😀

Drink more water. It'll kill the gas. Washes away/absorbs the bacteria that produce it. I take a fiber supplement, if I don't down at least 1/2 a glass of water with it I get gas.
