why does ff take 118mb of my ram?

It's done to keep all the tabbed pages easily viewable without disk thrashing. I think you can limit the cache in about:config, use 'cache' as your filter. People like yourself with old and slow computers should be taken into consideration when FF sends out releases, I'm not sure why they ignore you guys.

Stop using tabs and/or multiple windows if you don't want to use up memory

If you want to do serious browsing while using other memory intensive apps, you need to get more memory

Pretty simple...

it's a simple and honest question, why does it use so much? 43st pretty much answered that.

it's funny how once 43st made the personal attack, everybody else jumped in assuming that it was anything other than a question of why. if one day notepad ends up taking 100 mb of ram, i doubt many of you would not want to know why.

i have 2GBs of ram, who cares.

even when i had 2x256MB it was still fine even with over 100MB in usage.

if the leak happens as soon as you start firefox, then you should do something about it. if its happening after viewing lots of images, movies, etc...thats your problem.

it's funny because this isn't the 1st or even1203943th thread complaining about FF memory. a google search or a forum search would answer his "MUCH THOUGHT OUT" question.
