You mean, Mr "We begin bombing in 5 minutes"

Full quote, "My fellow Americans, I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."

Take a look at the economic data during the years he was in office. There are 3 stances people take from that data:
1) People who look at the absolute economic disaster for much of his terms and hate him.
2) People who look at the economic recovery at the end of his terms and claim he is the best president ever.
3) People who don't think a president has any impact on the economy and thus stick with whatever side they were on before reading my post - this group is rare.

At the end of his two terms in office, Ronald Reagan viewed with satisfaction the achievements of his innovative program known as the Reagan Revolution, which aimed to reinvigorate the American people and reduce their reliance upon Government.

And does that include tubercolosis cases increasing from 1,500 cases in 1983 to 30,000 in 1990 as a result of his slashing of social services?

I agree. he was instrumental in ending the Cold War between the U.S and Russia. He also helped stabilize the economy when inflation was going crazy in the mid 70's to early 80's . He was respected around the world as a good leader.

i wouldn't call a stock market crash and racking up more debt than every single president who proceeded him COMBINED helping to "stablize the economy."

There has to be a duality to every president. One half has to deal with foreign affairs and necessarily has to be rather cut-throat to get things flowing right. Reagan did this superbly. The other half has to soft-shore domestic affairs and be as progressive as possible to his own people. Reagan did not this, superbly.

I don't think any president is really any better than another. They are a figurehead only. It's not like they can really do sh!t.

Oh, please. How can you possibly correlate increases in TB to reduced increases (because that's what it really was) in social service budgets. Govt can't solve everything.

And if that's how you correlate things, then explain the massive rise in school spending during his, Bush I, Clinton's and Bush II's years, yet the unarguable fact that schools have failed more students, more often.

I know my understanding of current medical knowledge is no where near the pinnacle, but I don't see how a president can be in control of the increase in tuberculosis cases. Maybe, tuberculosis cases rose as a direct result of its increasing resistance against the drugs used against it. But that makes no sense, right? I mean, blaming the president is much easier.
