Why does everyone keep recommending the 5750

The card is not a valid upgrade choice for anyone really.

The cheapest one on newegg is 129.99

The cheapest 5750 is 149.99

The 5770 is 20 to 30 percent faster. Crossfire vs crossfire it only gets worse for the 5750.

A 5750 is equivalent to about a 250 gtx, faster than a 9800gt or 8800 gts or 4850 which seem to be the card that many are upgrading from; but not by much. Nothing to warrant a better set of visual effects or higher resolution.

I think it is terrible to recommend this card when the 5770 is one fast food meal away.

Also the cheapest of the 5750 (and 5770s for that matter) have a cheaper nonreference cooler and will NOT overclock as well as a reference design cooler which means to get a 5750 for overclocking purposes, you're looking at the same price as a 5770..

Am I wrong here?

The 5750 has been overclocking to 900 core on that cheap cooler. I think it's a very good option for people.

I kind of agree. While the 4850 is still in supply, people should eat it up. $99 or $120 for 512mb / 1gb. The next choice would be 5770 at $160.

5750 is only a wild card because of the high OC potential that can really take it far away from 4850 performance. But if you don't plan to OC, get a 4850.

Most people don't recommend a 5750 as an upgrade to those with already fast cards, but they do have a purpose if you are building or upgrading from something really slow. 8800GT to a 5750 is pushing it as far as upgrades go, but if you OC like a madman even that isn't too absurd.

4850 is a power hog tho.

Because I got mine for 85$ shipped!:D and it does 910 core, 1350 mem from stock 700, 1150. j/k :D

Really.... they only go for $135 shipped at the egg vs $158 shipped for the 5770.

The cheaper 4850's are 512mb not 1gb, as far as I can see on the egg. So why not a 5750 1gb for 135$ rather then a 120$ 4850?

15$ more, for awesome overclocking ,runs cooler, way less power needs, direct x 11, and all the other new features.

I wouldn't call it a bad buy at all.

I traded my used 125$ gtx 260 (what I paid for it) for a 5750 + 40$. I had to bite.:D
So far I have more then stock 5770 performance and close to my gtx 260.

Maybe because the 5750 is cheaper, fast enough, draws less power and is compact enough to fit in smaller towers. That is why I bought mine. It certainly was a nice step up from the HD4670 that I had before.

I don't understand why people always gripe about mid range cards be sepperated by $20 - $40 as this is the norm for all midrange cards and often the choices come down to whether or not you have the extra $20 - $40 at the time or if you're willing to wait.

The logic that you should just spend the extra $20 - $40 for the better card is, pardon my french, Fucking retarted. Following the same loginc, why consider the 5750 at all? Why not just pay $400 for a 5870 and be done with it? It's only money after all.

If I see one more debate about why a midrange card should be chosen over another citing it's inferior performance albeit lower price, I'ma gut someone like a damned fish.

What happened to your GTX 260?

Traded it for the 5750 + 40$. No shipping the guy dropped off at my house!:D LUCKY!
Remember, I only paid 125$ shipped for my gtx 260.
So 125$ - 40$= 85$ out of pocket for the 5750.
She gets the job done when overclocked, and if nvidia makes the prices drop, I hope to grab another one for less then 100$ to fill my crossfire only board.
JUst picked up a Corsair tx 750 for 60$ shipped for some crossfire action also.

5850 performance for less then 200$ for the win!

Thats if the 5830's price don't temp me too much.:D

But what family goes to BK for dinner?

I think the reason people recommend this card is because it isn't very expensive and delivers great dx11 performance for the price. This isn't meant as an upgrade for a top tier last gen card.

I grabbed a 5850 before they skyrocketed up in price and will grab another when Fermi drops and they go down again.

How much was it back then?

I also like the HD5750, but the OP is right. The HD5770 is a better buy at this point in time.

The cheapest HD5750 1 GB is $134 shipped. The egg had the powercolor HD5770 PCS+ 1GB for $134 AR ($144 right now after that rebate). Yes, it involves a rebate, but powercolor rebates are reliable and decently fast (~8 weeks) No HD5750 1Gb is below $129 right now, rebate or not.

If you wanna count rebates the 5750 is now 127$ AR shipped for the MSI afterburner version.
