Why Does Everyone Hate Vista?!

Is it because it run's games slower than XP? I currently have Vista and I am typing this out on my vista laptop and I have never had any problems ever with Vista.

Your thoughts? ^_^

Hate no....disappointed yes. I'm sure it will be better after SP1 and the fact that memory prices are falling like a rock.

My new laptop came with Vista and I had a blue screen within an hour. So it was bye bye Vista right then and there. My personal copy of XP Pro is running on my new laptop now and it is a beautiful thing.

I personally think my Vista x64 rocks!!!!!!.....23 games installed working great ,never had a BSOD,rock solid stability, can't see how SP1 can improve on that.

Vista, as well as any piece of software, reacts differently to different hardware configurations. While in the OPs hardware it worked flawlessly, on mine or someone else's it may not have.

Then there is also the standards and expectations that people have. These could take disappointments to another level.

I don't think people hate vista. I think they choose not to use it because it offers nothing real over what XP offers.

There's also the fact that drivers do not exist for many less common parts, and the fact that new microsoft operating systems have proved prone to bugs over the years.

I agree with you to a point ,a new OS will have bugs, however Vista does have improvements if you actually go through what it has to offer,as to drivers I had all my 64 bit drivers within 5 weeks of release, even hardware like DTV tuner,ColorVision Spyder2Express USB calibration device.

I can't speak for other peoples hardware since we all have different requirements, but the fact remains Vista has less bugs and better stability when you compare XP to its first year of release,Vista even has better driver support then what XP had in its first year.

Sidenote:We probably get same old arguments when Vienna is released down the road.Anybody remember threads like this years ago with 2K owners over XP owners in AT?... I do .

There is a ridiculous amount of misinformation out there regarding Vista, which is too bad, since it's a fantastic OS.

There is no question there are some incompatibilities with apps, & gaming isn't great yet, but i still have no desire to go back to XP.

I don't hate it, but I see absolutely no reason to upgrade to it. Especially since it would pretty much require me to buy a new PC.

While Vista offers advances that I appreciate (just as each version of Windows has), at the same time it also comes with caveats.

I would be very surprised if anyone here would honestly call Vista their dream come true, but Windows remains the most likely compromise for me presently, and therefore Vista is inevitable.

It's new, it's different, it's got eye candy, it's gotten a lot of hype, therefore it MUST be bad... right? :D I mean, harmony of the spheres and all that. ;)

For me, I didn't feel much compulsion to get WinXP over Win2000 until WinXP SP2 came out. But I have no problem justifying/recommending Vista over WinXP SP2 just on the security aspect alone, not to mention it being an appropriate time to transition to DX10 and 64-bit.

I like it a lot actually. It's the little stuff in it that makes it worth it for me. Like when moving files, it shows where it's being moved to. Some things that are annoying are the new places that things are located, but that is because it is a new OS, and that's fine. However, having a folder deleted somehow and me not being able to explain how--that I worry about. But I am enjoying it thoroughly, especially when coupled with Office 2007.

Stability > Eye candy

also the fact that DX10 is vista only made me not wanna buy, forcing consumers to buy a new OS AND Card is complete bullshit to be honest.

I was dubious of Vista, even after participating in much of the beta program. Then got a free retail copy from the Power Together deal. After seeing how well it ran on my old personal 700m, when we ordered a couple new computers for the office, we got them with Vista (we already had a testing machine we have with an Action Pack license that honestly hasn't seen too much testing). After that, I purchased an Ultimate upgrade for my Media Center computer after playing around with the new VMC at Best Buy. I really didn't plan on doing any of these changes/upgrades to Vista -- I figured it'd be fun to play with on my laptop for a while, and the testing machine in the office would help us answer any questions from users that picked up Vista machines and I'd gradually replace my computers with ones preloaded with Vista some time way down the line. But after playing with it on several different configurations and for several different scenarios (mobile, office domain pc, dedicated media pc), I have to say it really is a fantastic OS and going back to XP desktops really, really sucks.

I don't hate it, it just isn't currently as usable as XP for me.

Gaming issues, installer issues, UAC fun. Aero Glass is shiny, but doesn't help me get things done or make games play better.

I have Vista installed on a second partition (I have MSDN through work so it was free), but so far haven't seen anything in it to make me want to switch to it full time.

It provides nothing new and people are pretty much forced to use it via new PC purchases.

Doing things like putting DirectX 10 on Vista and not XP piss me off. I might seriousloy consider Linux soon. Than kgod someone is hacking directX10 to work with XP.

Vista is basically turning into WIndows 2000. Remember that OS?

I'm mostly a security-minded guy and can think of piles of new stuff in that realm alone (to say nothing of the rest). Stuff whose time has come. Maybe you're over-generalizing?

I rather liked Vista. Nice new interface, better security, improved networking, etc.

I only switched back to XP because of the poor game performance. Resuming from sleep needed some work too although I don't know if that's Vista's fault or ATI's.

Dead on, looking around various places on the internet and in print Vista has been very badly misrepresented as simply XP+Aero when really there is a lot of great stuff in Vista, sidebar, super fetch, search, security, etc.

I've been using Vista for a little over a month now and I low it, it seems much easier to use then XP, the features previously mentioned and others are wonderful and make things easier, plus Aero is really nice looking too.

But that assumes you like Dock, err Sidebar. And that you need help with security. And that you lose track of your files.

It seems like a nice OS to buy for your grandma so she can surf safely and not get her PC infected quite so soon.

Or nice for people the like to mess around with weather map applets for the side-dock, or stock tickers, or some other toy applets.

Nothing wrong with all that, I just haven't found anything in Vista that is better for experienced users like me. Extra shininess doesn't count.

I do like sidebar, its nice having CPU, memory, hard drive and network monitors easily accessible at all times, I like having a timer so I can time myself when working on presentations, and I like having a calculator right there when I need it, I would hardly call them toys, they aren't really necessary but they are very nice to have. I don't need help with security I haven't gotten a virus in a few years (back when I was pretty clueless) but the way I see it more security is always better then less. And yes I do lose track of my files, I have about 5 years worth of work on my computer and no apparent naming scheme so search is absolutely wonderful. For advanced users there are things like super fetch, I love being able to open photoshop in seconds, Vista was designed with the novice user in mind but 9 times out of 10 I don't need the advanced commands and the simple interface is great. After you get used to it (which takes about a week) the interface seems infinitely more intuitive then XP and for me going back to XP is almost painful. I'm not saying Vista is for everyone but I think it has been misrepresented as either simply a cosmetic upgrade or without anything for the experienced user, both I think are completely untrue.
