IOW, you paid the "stupid tax" and are proud to continue doing so in the name of "learning" for yourself despite the waste of time and money.

this.

he gets mad at me for assuming that I would continue to see something that I already know is stupid and worthless ("that would be stupid, wouldn't ? luoludum!!"), then when I inform him that after seeing half a dozen of his flicks--paid no more than a dollar for the "privilege" each time--which is more than enough to inform myself that he is dog shit and not worth considering, he claims that having not seen each one, I am now unqualified to form an opinion.

what a worthless slog.

:D

stupid tax is the appropriate word for this type of ill-informed "informed" opinion creation.

i always love when people pull the dialogue card. oh, this movie has bad dialogue. guess what, most movies do. even the ones you love. you just don't realize it because you found something you like about the movie and want to show everyone how superior you are.

if you want good dialogue, read a book. unless that's too complicated for you.

or he likes to form his own opinions and not fall into the sheep line like most people here seem content to do. and quite honestly, who are you to judge what he spends his time and money on?

Looking at a list of his movies, for the most part, they are pretty entertaining.

Bad Boys
The Rock
Armageddon
Pearl Harbor
Bad Boys II
The Island
Transformers
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

So where does all of the hate come from?

Bad Boys 1 was ok, the Rock was good, the rest of those movies sucked, although the first 30 minutes or so of the Island were pretty interesting.

when one challenges another on their taste, and one chooses to give reasons for such, then is attacked for such reasons, one should expect to be judged.

are you guys really this simple?

i dunno i'm not really following the thread. it's funny to see someone try and tell another person how to spend their time and money tho, like it's any of their damn business.

of course, from reading your posts, i would guess you would know a lot about being simple.

This is basically what he said:
I had every reason to believe that this movie was terrible. People even told me not to waste my money.
I wasted my money and agree that it is terrible.
I will do it again in the future.

Just so you know, RT isn't "a critic's opinion." It's an aggregation of all known reviews. A "67%" means that 67% of known reviews seemed positive. While most movies score low ("haters gonna hate"), a highly-rated mainstream movie on RT ("Certified Fresh") rarely disappoints.

i never told anyone what to do or what not to do with their time and money.

I was asked to defend my position. When I gave my reasoning for Michael Bay sucking, I was told that I have no taste.

that is laughable, considering the idiocy behind such an assumption. I really know no better way to respond to such an assumption. I don't suffer fools lightly, and this is the internet.

I also never said there is anything wrong about robots fighting and big explosions, just that when that is all you have on the table, and you do it very poorly (blurry, spinny, close up shots of cartoon elbows going this way and that for 30 minutes or so does not convey much of anything), then you have failed to do even the simplest of things that one set out to do--that's what makes one a terrible director/writer/producer, whatever he wants to think of himself.

and it's still his time and money. if he wants to form his own opinions that's his right. there are plenty of movies i've enjoyed that other people didn't, and the same goes the other way. a lot of people love mad men, i think it's a pile of shit.

i know what RT is, and i would never use it to gauge whether or not i saw a movie. i rarely see movies in the theater tho, so grabbing it off netflix doesn't really cost me any extra.

I don't suffer fools lightly, and this is the internet.

it's amazing you're able to live with yourself.

Everyone knows what kind of movies Michael Bay makes....

the funny thing is that every idiot in this thread thats hating on him has seen mos of his movies and will continue to watch them, and continue hating.

You would think that if someone doesn't like his movies, they would have stopped watching by now...

fucking morons, I guarantee half the retards talking shit will go see the next Transformers.....just like they did with the last one.

You're jealous because he used his position of power to get Megan Fox into the sack.

were it Jennifer Connoly or Scarlett Johansen or Marion Cotillard, I'd be jealous...but I'm not.

Then again, no way in hell Cotillard would give this dingleberry the time of day.

:hmm:

...unless, maybe, $4 million were behind that entreaty.

Michael Bay made those movies? The only movie I've seen in full was Transformer, I got HBO free for being a first time customer of DirectTV. What I thought was a Transformer movie turned out to be a very long and boring ads for GM. If I ever accidentally hit a channel that is showing any of those movies above, I just change the channel.

Are you kidding me? I watched "Bad Boys" because I didn't know any better (his 1st movie so... no one did). I watched "Transformers" and specifically wrote-off Michael Bay and any sequels. I refused to watch the "Transformers 2: Rise of the Fallen" (God! Even the subtitle sounds retarded) and I personally know at least one other who did the same for the same reason. I did eventually watch "Pearl Harbor" only because it was an early BD movie that everyone insisted would impress me even if I didn't like Michael Bay movies. Every criticism I had heard was spot-on.

My point is that, YES, his suckitude is costing him $$$ and eyeballs.

Here's my rant on Transformers: The first one (2007) was pretty great. A mindless, but entertaining, popcorn action flick. Sure, there were some cheesy jokes, and a lame teenage romance going on between it all... but overall Transformers was an entertaining movie. I enjoyed it.

When Michael Bay made Transformers 2, he took everything shitty about the first one and turned it up to 11. Absolutely terribe, terrible humor; more shitty romance, and a terrible storyline (Sam dies, goes to robot heaven, talks to robot gods, ends up somewhere in Egypt?). They don't even make you care about the characters. The decepticons could grab Sam and tear him into a bloody pulp. I don't give a shit.

Me.. i expected explosions and big robots.

I was satisfied with the movie.

I expected explosions and big robots too, but with Transformers 2, I didn't even get that. All I could see was one big CG diarrhea shitstorm smeared all over the screen. I could take a shit on a celluloid film reel and it would be a better movie than Transformers 2. (maybe if they at least zoomed the camera out in some scenes, I could tell what's going on... but no.)

Armageddon and Pearl Harbor were entertaining. Mindless, but at least they were coherent.

Personally I'm a fan of Michael Bay movies. They're not oscar winners, because they are not supposed to be. They are movies meant for a lot of action, a little humor, and a plot.

Are they full of plot holes yes, but find me even classic movies that dont, look at commando, rambo, lionheart, etc. You can find plot holes for days. I'm not sure what people expect out of most action movies. People need to realize that not every action movie can be this great movie worthy of winning an oscar.

I also stopped looking to see what critics say, these are the same people that said transformers sucked, armageddon sucked, etc. I want my Transformers and the Rock just as much as I want to watch The Departed or The Godfather.

I think people hate on Michael Bay because they think it will make them appear more intellectual or something.

Me personally, I just want to be entertained.

word.

i think all of you expect too much from movies in general.

i had no idea who MB was until people on this forum started bitch about how much he sucked. (prob around transformers 1 time) i had seen every single movie he made before that. They were all entertaining and the ones i saw in the thearter were worth my 7$ to keep me entertained for 2 hours or so.

i honestly do not care who directs/produces/whatevers a movie, nor do i care if others think the movie sucks.

watch what you like and stop caring what others think about it

unfortunately for him, he had the bad luck of trying to turn one of the most popular cartoons of all time into a movie worth watching. he failed miserably. twice.

I wonder if he did it because he wanted her to stick that thumb up his ass.

I think it's mostly jealousy. He's fabulously successful and makes entertaining movies. He gives people what they want: explosions, cute girls, gun fights, stuff blowing up, helicopters, etc.

I think some people tend to get too wrapped up in the "artsy" side of movies - that they need a deep meaning or theme or whatever. The most basic purpose of a movie is for entertainment - bring the popcorn, turn off the brain, enjoy the action. People obviously like action flicks, as they sell the most tickets, and Mr. Bay caters specifically to that audience. Thus he makes a ton of money.

Now if you want someone to hate on, let's talk about Uwe Boll...

So where does all of the hate come from?

I skipped the many posts after the OP, so this has probably been said already, but its worth reiterating...

Michael Bay makes big, expensive movies that are entertaining, but not particularly deep. The internet is full of loud, obnoxious snobs that think nothing popular or un-artsy is good. If a movie didn't debut at some sort of independent movie festival, its not good enough. If the movie has special effects more advanced than they can make on their Macbook, its not good enough.

Basically - he makes good movies that loud internet nerds won't like no matter what.
