My god...

Have you seen Armageddon? Have you seen Pearl Harbor?

Does this really need any explanation at all?

I want to kill the untalented hack with a spork.

and because you think explosions and big robots is "shit" .... you were obviously expecting Optimus Prime to recite Shakespeare.

I dont think films with explosions and big robots in are shit.

I think films that contain explosions and big robots but no decent plot, no character development, no decent dialog and all the other things that differentiate a decent film from a cheap Japanese childrens animation are shit.

At this point, I'm curious as to what type of movies zin actually likes (he might of said it, but I probably missed it).

I've got absolutely nothing wrong with Michael Bay movies... I find them to be generally entertaining. They're good popcorn flicks where you shut down your mind for 2 hours and have fun. I wouldn't watch any of his movies more than once, but to call them trash is disingenuous.

Did you watch Transformers 2? The fact that he can take a movie about giant, transforming robots from your youth and make it NOT fun is a testament to how much it is trash.

bay's movies are for people with brain damage. i'd rather have my balls electrocuted in a 3rd world prison than watch his crap.

Bay's movies are only good if you can just go in and watch it. if you try to pay attention to the plot or what is actually going on you will not like them.

they are good for what they are intended for. to waste a few hours and see things go boom. i am always happy with them.

Though Transformers 2 really did suck. did we really need a nut shot of the robot? and most of them looked the same. it was hard to fallow what was going on. the blur action was a pain.

it really could have been far far better then it was.

Yea, I did. It was alright.

But, out of all those Michael Bay movies, I enjoyed Transformers the least (partly because I have no affection for transformers in general). I found Transformers 2 to be on par with the first.

I've only seen Pearl Harbor, The Island and Transformers. Pearl Harbor had good action sequences (from what I remember, I haven't seen it since the original theatrical release and don't know how they have held up over the years), The Island was an entertaining movie that surpassed my expectations and Transformers annoyed me. I had zero interest in the movie (I must have grown up under a rock where I never really paid attention to the cartoon series) and the annoying protagonist, stupid humor and hyper-editing pissed me off.

I don't think anyone had an issue with his movies before they handed him Transformers. We just had higher expectations than the director of Pearl Harbor and Bad Boys could deliver on.

Transformers = 2007
Team America: World Police = 2004
Penny-Arcade comic = Jan, 2003

I certainly hated him and his movies already.

Except the difference is... IF they make a number 2..... i wont go see it.

I love the people that are like..

Matrix was horrible... worst movie ever.
Matrix 2 was even worse...
Matrix 3 sucked!

What??? why see 2 & 3 if you hated 1. I'll never understand THAT logic.

Bad example. Most people only hated the two follow-ups to The Matrix. Even then, most thought that the second movie would be redeemed by the third (they were produced together and the second ends with a lot of loose ends). I actually gushed about Reloaded when it first arrived and then begged for forgiveness when I saw that Revolutions only made everything worse and left Reloaded as being nothing more than WTF-material.

I started hating him when he chose to direct a Pearl Harbor: Jerry Springer episode. WTF man? How could anyone sign up for that shit.

He thought the the love triangle in Titanic was a key to its success and he tried to imitate it in a way that makes all characters sympathetic victims of fate. He forgot that we need a bad guy to care.

Well and the fact that it was Pearl freaking Harbor. There was plenty of stuff they could have written a script about that would have made it an interesting movie full of history, love, whatever else you need to make a movie less repulsive than the one Bay defecated into theaters.

Don't worry guyver, the joke is on us as Transformers 3 will be out this summer and Bay will be that much richer.
At least he replaced Megan Fox with a Victoria's Secret model with no acting experience, so you don't have to worry about good acting getting in the way of the large robots and T&A.
You worried about "good acting getting in the way of the T&A" with Megan Fox?

Looking at a list of his movies, for the most part, they are pretty entertaining.

Bad Boys
The Rock
Armageddon
Pearl Harbor
Bad Boys II
The Island
Transformers
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

So where does all of the hate come from?

Here's why:

Bad Boys
Armageddon
Pearl Harbor
Bad Boys II
The Island
Transformers
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Here's the thing:

I don't have to sit here and list reams and reams of things that I like, Of movies that I like, simply because I share a rather majority opinion (majority of those with functioning ganglion, anyway) that Michael Bay is garbage.

Pointing out the fact that everything he does is vapid trash meant for cheap, brain-insulting thrills (and they fail in thrills, honestly), does not preclude me to have to qualify what I do like. It's testemanet to the fact that I know what I'm talking about, and I actually do like movies.

I use appreciation of Michael Bay as a qualifier for someone who has very low film exposure. You may like him simply because you are highly selective with what you watch. You probably don't like foreign flicks b/c "I hate having to read while I watch a movie--what the fuck is that? WhAAAAA!" or maybe, "that was too long and too much of a chick flick and drama and stuff."

whatever.

It's a natural Law, much like gravity, much like evolution--that MIchael Bay makes trash--and he makes it very, very poorly. He makes explosions--THAT IS FUCKING IT. His movies are edited poorly, the dialogue is always terrible, the characters are flat pieces of garbage. every time. It's like amateur hour with a non-amateur budget. He makes movies for idiot teenagers that have nothing better to do than spend mommy and daddies money at the theater.

The thing I don't like about people like you Guyver is that your type tends to think that those who DO like shakespeare, for example, are just snobs. I don't truthfully know if you are like this or not in real life, so this isn't directed necessarily 100% at you, but I've come to know that many, most, who speak like you are in this thread, look down on those of us who like some art in our entertainment as much as you think we look down on you.

No. i don't form my opinion based on what someone else thinks. i'm not a sheep.

i don't read Rotten Tomatoes to find out about movies... i don't watch Siskel or Ebert for their review. i am educated enough to be able to make up my own mind about a movie.

Example:
I was looking forward to The Last Airbender. My wife & i are big fans of the anime. People i knew told me not to see it... it was crap... it was M. Night. Shamalamadingdong.. it must be bad... blah blah blah.

I went to see it anyways. I form my own opinion. Did i like the movie? No. It was horrendous. Do i think people who liked it are idiots? No. They're entitled to their opinion.

IOW, you paid the "stupid tax" and are proud to continue doing so in the name of "learning" for yourself despite the waste of time and money.
