Why does everyone and their mom want an intel mac mini?

Not everyone whats a bulky desktop built by a pimply face nerd. They are small and use low power.

It appealed to me because it was the Mac that came the closest to meeting my needs in my price range. I don't want a built-in screen, and I don't want to pay over $2000.

It's small, silent, and when I decide to upgrade it I can use it as a HTPC.

It is just so adorable. Hell, if the Dell Studio Hybrid could easily run OS X, I would like that better, but it can't, so Mac Mini!

Because the only other desktop choices are an iMac or a Mac Pro. If there was a real mid-range option between them the Mini would likely only really be considered for niche things like HTPC duties.

Umm, don't a lot of animals survive precisely because they are part of a group and not out wandering on their own? As for humans and product 'herding,' it is often (not always) the case that a popular item is popular because it is good or has some supposed appeal.

Though I would like to see it do 1080p blu ray. It prob could in windows but dunno about mac. Anyone have a link? All I could find is someone playing some crappy 1080 encode at 10Mbps. I wanna see real 50Mbps.
