Why does every hotel room has a Bible in it?

I have heard conflicting theories about why that is... anyone knows the answer?

A charitable group called the Gideons has been distributing them to hotels, hospitals, etc. for about 100 years.

Red Dawn, who is probably the most religous man in America, insists on it. He travels extensively and wants to have something to read in his hotel room at night. That's what I heard anyway. You could PM him and ask.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think that the Gideon International organization has agreements that they will be allowed to put the Bibles in certain hotel chains. They are a non-profit organization, so they don't get paid. If they snuck it in there, do you think you'd see one in every hotel room? Don't you think the cleaning ladies would remove it?

They are donated by the Gideon society, and you are free to take them with you if you'd like - They intend for them to be taken.

I always thought that the catholic priests left them in there after they were finished with the altar boys. :D

Why steal towels when you have cheap relatives that gives towels EVERY years for Christmas? :)

When I was in Atlantic City last time, I stayed at Resorts International. Under the Bibble was one of those Penthouse forums magazine. I guess they missed it during housekeeping.

Haha turns out all the theories I heard about this were WRONG!!! :D

I dont steal towels from hotels... but when I was younger I took shampoo bottles and matches (if available) just as a reminder...

I think you're on to something.... :D

They're probly in there to try to convert foreign tourists or something... But then again, the dollar has "In God We Trust" on it, so I can see why nobody has protested. If the Gideon thing was true, then every major religion would have their "holy book" in there and it would have to be one hell of a nightstand. My .02

towel? Good luck:
My friend's dad was sick and run into the bathroom to "release" without notice the maid put it down. So he use the towel.

My wife's co-worker's face "double in size" after he use the hotel towel to wash.

 wouldn't he have smelled something or seen something or felt something before he washed his face with it?
