Why does dragging and dropping links work when copy/paste doesn't?

Indolent's marshmallow thread made me wonder anew. If I drag and drop the link into the address bar in IE, it works.

But if I copy and paste into the address bar, it gives me the fat girl!

I wonder...

NM, misread. I think they do the same thing.

I don't know. Copying and pasting in either firebird or IE gives me the correct video.
