Why does DPC beat TA on almost EVERY distributed project?

<<Why does DPC beat TA on EVERY distributed project?>>

I don't think they are beating us in SETI. Yet.

<<Do they do that intentionally?>>

Well, I don't think they are beating us accidently. I think the answer to your question is they have a tremendous edge in total numbers. It's not rocket science, more computers equals more results.

I might also add the close coordination/cohesion of the team, look at the mega dump they coordinated yesterday in OGR. By and large they suck (there are a handful of notable exceptions), but they are a formidable opponent.

DPC are small fry in SETI 🙂 (no offense)

DPC SETI
Members 128
Results received 33688
Total CPU time 55.422 years

TA SETI
Members 933
Results received 822939
Total CPU time 1063.010 years

Maybe you feel a little better now?😉 ,you may want to change the title of the your post😛

I believe you are thinking of SETI@Netherlands

Jim definately hit the nail on the head. The DPC are just damn good at the job; they're better at assimilating people and growing the team out, hence they have been able to beat us at most project so far.😱 However, that in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but good. Thanks to the work they do, all the projects are benefitting.🙂

its easier for them to say BEAT THE USA JOIN DPC, us americans dont give a living hoot about the dutch, no offense to the dutch. and we are not just the USA so its not country vs country for us...

A lot of it also plays off of national pride. A lot of european countries take great pride in their celebrities or national accomplishments. Part of the appeal of the DPC is showing what they can do, and doing it to larger groups.

That is one thing that TA can not use to its advantage. We are multi-national so it is impossible to use it. With RC5 the best we can do is point to our mini teams and say "look what they can do" and that "I am part of that" They do the same thing but instead of being part of a hardware review site team they are part of "the Dutch team"

Sorry but I couldn't help myself, I had to react. We don't see it as an dutch vs USA, maybe there are a few of the thousand of us who think so. If we would see it as dutch vs USA you're already beat in SETI as well (SETI@NL), but that ain't the case.

Scraper

ps. no flame intended

The DPC Seti@ome team is just a collection of users who are member of the Dutch Power Cows and somewhere in the past have done som SETI units. We decided to retire all those units to one team and that's almost all about S@h. Maybe there are some active ppl still, but that's more an exception.

Please be carefull with what you say Assim. Because the things that has been said by the DPC according SETI it's almost impossible for them to enter the search, but if they do your (and my) team will have deep sh*t... Don't forget DPC is a Tweakers.Net offspring with all the frontpage support they need...

Nice try Assimilator1 🙂 but i think we are not stepping in before RC5 is finished and even then i am not so sure.

To answer these questions:

<<Why does DPC beat TA on EVERY distributed project?>>

<<Do they do that intentionally?>>

When we were getting close to TA in RC5 we (very) often heard the argument:

"DPC is a singleproject team as opposed to TA which is a multiproject team and overall much stronger than DPC."

Well after taking over first place in RC5 we decided it was time to proof this wrong. 🙂

To be a multiproject team is easy just take part in other projects, to proof that we are as strong as TA we had to overtake you in
those projects.

So far we have done this in RC5, GammaFlux(RIP), UD, OGR, ECCp and in a couple of weeks G@H. Its fair to say now we are as strong as TA 🙂

That leaves Seti afaik and for now that would be just a little too much to take on 🙂

Just an explanation no offence intended.

Happy cracking and crunching! 🙂

and in a couple of weeks G@H

Yes... I noticed this rapid rise in G@H. TA is 30 and the DPCs are 32. 😛

We...need...more...machines! 😕 😛

Some people at DPC are just obsessed with TA. Don't know why and I'm glad that it is a minority, but the first thing they think when starting a new distributed computing contest is: Let's assimilate and crush TA. Mind you there are only few members who feel like this, but they annoy me all the same 🙁

I say, why can't we all get along? and I think that Virge brought up the most important fact: The rivalry between TA and DPC is good for the contests and their companies behind them (and the charities of course 😀)

Assimilator1: Just be careful what you wish for 😎 even seti@nl, with their great latest asset doesn't really want DPC in s@h [develish grin] 🙂

The DPC can't really claim to be as strong as us until they dominate us in SETI. Let them try to dominate all the projects at once, the same as TA does now. We can still say we are ranked in the top 20 of all the projects. Thats one claim the DPC can't make.

Edit: damn I can't type.
