You have a point. Mononoke Hime only grossed something like 2 million, and they hired real actors to do that. Well, somewhat real. Even they didn't do that great a job. So I don't think Disney's going to bother straining over every little detail.
They also bought out the rights to a lot of other films, which they no doubt will delay bringing over in it's original form.
You're being a bit unfair here.
First of all, Studio Ghibli has final say over everything that Disney does.
Second, Mononoke Hime's low US gross had a lot more to do with its Mirimax-branded limited release than the quality of the actors that participated in it (and although I prefer to see films with the original soundtrack, that was by no means a shoddy translation or dub). It was an arthouse film, not a multiplex one. Would it have made more money if it had been distributed more widely? I'm doubtful about that (I do think that Disney is accountable for its stranglehold on the traditionally-animated feature film and its heavy influence over the American public as to what constitutes an acceptable animated feature, but I'm disputing the assertion that they're deliberately trying to mangle the source material).
Third, the delay in releasing other Ghibli films (I've been waiting on a theatrical release of Laputa since the deal was struck) was not Disney's doing, but a restriction imposed by Ghibli to not interfere with the region 2 release of the film (along with a bunch of other Ghibli classics).
Fourth, if you can't trust John Lasseter to do a good job overseeing the dubbing process, who can you trust?
