Why does Discovery HD look so much better than other HD channels?

So why do my guests enter my theater and go on and on and on about "it doesn't look that good in my theater, WTH did you do and how do I get my theater to look like that!"

oh well. It's generally accepted that CRT owns all. But it's like trying to convince somebody that vinyl is far superior to CD. They just haven't been exposed to audio/vido done correctly.

I will add that I'm talking TV's, not projectors that cost 5k+.

For the super-high end people, I know that a properly-calibrated CRT projector is still slightly ahead.

But nobody said projectors, and very few people on average have such an expensive setup.

When you're talking 2-3k for a TV, I've yet to see a CRT that looks as good as the current big screen offerings.

I'm talking about a normal sized TV. You'll be hard pressed to find a 30-36" TV that looks as good as a Sony XS or XBR CRT.

Well, we're comparing apples to oranges I guess, because I just consider HDTV to be big-ass screens. That's just my preference, though.
I know Sony pretty much owns the CRT market in that size range.

yeah, but even a well done RPTV offers more. same technology, just different screen.

But I'll agree - 99% of consumers haven't a clue. BTW - my home theater is RPTV, the fixed pixel stuff is in other rooms.

I guess I'm just done with my friends showing of their new TV and home theaters and being disgusted, and holding my tongue. they've got a 4-5K TV and it looks like crap as they beam about it. It's difficult to say the least. They expound on how good HD looks and it's NOT hd.

oh well, this is my hobby and I enjoy it immensly.
