Why does digital cable mess up in bad weather?

I imagine it's still susceptible to interference.

Ah, but don't they get all their stations via satellite? So why don't other channels freeze during bad weather... or show noticible drops in quality?

Not to mention the fact that you may not live in the same city or state where those big ass satellites are.

That I don't know. I get the same thing sometimes on my DirectTV.

It happens with my cable when we have a long soaking rain. The picture is bad for at least 24 hrs after that, especially on the upper analog channels. Many of the digitals were out the last time this happened. It's literally like something gets wet and has to dry out.

Cox Cable here has been running all kind of ads that border on slander against satellites. They show all the "problems" of satellites, rain fade, amateur dish mounting disasters, neighbors' kids bouncing on trampolines next door and interfering with the picture.

I never have had satellite, but from what I know that last one is obviously utter bullsh!t. But I'm sure there are plenty of people that don't know any better. I hope they get their asses sued.

With digital it's all or nothing, so a little signal loss and you're missing a big block of pixels; with an analog signal you get degradation of overall picture, which might not be noticeable at all depending on your tv.

I used to have satellite, we actually did get rid of it because of the bad picture issues. I live in the Pacific Northwest, we have issues with rain here. My LNB would get soaked and I would lose picture all the time. I actually started using Rain-X on it and it cured the problem for a little while. I just got sick of jacking with it all the time.

Get a dish at least 4ft 5" diameter and a good receiver. I have no problems, not even during storms.

Wow, this is the strangest thing i've ever heard. I've never heard of digital cable getting worse in bad weather.

I have Directv, and in the past few years, i've only had picture trouble 2-3 times... and i'm all the way up here in Canada. Those who are having problems in bad weather, maybe you need to realign your dish.
