Why does Comcast have to suck so bad?

So the scifi channel and the travel channel (and maybe others) decided to randomly just drop from my lineup. On calling Comcast, they attempt to "send a signal" to my cablecards, which does apparently nothing, after which they recommend setting up an appointment to have a technician come out. Yay.

It's a weak rant, I know, but why can't they just have service that actually works?

You mean because you pay for the premium package and only get 7 HD channels while others pay less and get 30+? Yeah they suck pretty badly.

I pay for the entry level digital+HD package and I get 20 or so HD channels.

Because they don't care? As long as they are getting money from you, there is no problem, as far as they are concerned. If you want to spank them, call customer service (have fun waiting in line) every time there is a problem, =and then deduct a day from your monthly bill for each day you have a problem--THAT will get their attention. After all, the only reason they exist is to make money, so if that stream of money gets interrupted, they have to pay attention.....

Great. So after rebooting the Tivo, both cable cards de-initialized, and now the box is stuck in a loop where it reboots every few minutes. So I switched to the digital cable box (which is actually receiving the dropped channels), and I'll deal with this next weekend.

When Adelphia was in town we had some bad CS and some bad cable quality. A lot of cable channels came in fuzzy. And they refused to put the Speed Channel on any package. When the CSR blamed all five of our sets (when all of them magically worked crystal clear with Cox cable prior to our move) we promptly canceled and got Direct TV.
Out of all the stupid scare tactics that cable said about dishes, we never had an outage while watching tv.
