Why would any of that matter, it's just a transaction like any other. If the person can't afford to pay off the card it does not really matter if they're buying a lotto ticket or some junk food. I typically use my credit card for everything to get points then pay it off after. Does not matter what I'm buying as long as the store can accept credit cards and most, if all, stores do. A transaction is a transaction.

If I'm some deadbeat alcoholic or gambler buying alcohol or lotto tickets that's not really the credit card company's problem, it's mine. I will need to find some way to pay that off or face penalties.

The credit card company does not care what I bought, they just care that I owe them a certain amount of money and will do everything to get that money from me if I don't pay.
I always assumed it had something to do with the state and how much they regulate and tax lottery ticket sales. You are charged a transaction fee for using a CC / Debit card, and the merchant would have to eat that if they have to give all $1 to the state for the lottery.

Unfortunately, most do not think this way and why they don't allow it.

Virginia doesnt allow lotto on credit cards.

Apparently a few people racked up massive debt and declared bankruptcy doing that.

............... FML. I went to buy liquor yesterday and got carded for the third time in a row at the same store. The legal drinking (and smoking?) age here is 19.

I'm short, but I am freaking almost completely bald. Come on, I do not look under 19... I'm late 20s, for eff's sake.

I'm in the same boat except not bald. No facial hair either, so most people think I'm like 12.

When I bought my house the neighbors kept asking where my parents were.

I have been carded for buying Gatorade at the gas station before, they wanted ID to make sure I didn't steal the credit card.

Hahaha really? That's pretty sad lol. Should not even be the store's problem if you did steal it, they're not the police. I guess if they knowingly allowed the transaction then they'd be in trouble but if they don't know I don't think they would be.

Shouldn'tbe no, but that's not really how it works. If you find a fraudulent charge on your statement and call Visa or Mastercard or whoever saying it is false (and you aren't lying) they will cancel the charges and just charge the vendor, so they (the vendor) are absolutely interested in verifying your identity.
